Deidrägo Dairy Goats is the herd owned and managed by Megan Okeson and Russell Paulsen in Topeka, Kansas. We raise Oberhasli, Nubian, and Experimental dairy goats. Oberhasli remain the focus of our breeding program and we try to push our herd's performance with our work with Experimental animals. We maintain only a small number of Nubians, but have found them to be a lot of fun! We strive to breed animals that are stylish, structurally sound, and productive. Our goal is to breed animals that excel in balance throughout, being strong in general appearance and mammary system while maintaining the strength and substance to be a productive dairy animal. We place importance on strength of feet and legs, front end assemblies, and shape of mammary system. To maintain a consistent number of animals every year, we routinely have milking does and kids available every spring. If you are interested in adding a mature Deidrägoat to your herd, send us an email and we can discuss this possibility! We strive to provide our animals with the best care we can. It is extremely important to us that we give every animal the best opportunity it can to perform. Our goats are raised on strict CAE prevention and given regular CDT, Pasteurella, and Lysigin vaccinations. They receive dewormer, selenium and copper supplementation routinely. Our animals receive high quality local alfalfa hay, prairie hay, a commercial 16% dairy feed, Purina Goat Grower, a commercial 12% all stock feed, pelleted beet pulp, and free choice loose minerals and baking soda. We manage and change diets for each group of animals depending on their physiological state. Our mature animals have access to large grass pastures and we strive to provide them with fun toys and treats. Every day we evaluate the health of our animals to ensure they can live to their maximum genetic potential. Our herd is protected by some amazing pair of Great Pyrenees, Naga and Iris, and we are excited to start an LGD breeding program within the next few years. We wouldn't trust the safety and health of our herd to any other breed of LGD. Please see our management document and most recent CAE tests linked below. We always enjoy talking with other dairy goat breeders, so if you have any questions or comments please send Megan an email, or a message through Facebook. Thank you again for your interest in our herd. |
